Tips to Baby-Proof Your Crib and Condo

Babies are quite curious about their surroundings, touching stuff, and even putting it in their mouths as they explore, which also makes them vulnerable. Here are ways to make your crib safe when caring for a baby in your Vela One home.

Carefully Consider Crib Placement

When babies discover new things and sounds, they can sometimes get farther than we’d expect. They are unpredictable and can surprise us many times. This is why we should avoid setting the crib close to wires and outlets. Some babies can potentially harm themselves from these hazards. Set the crib to its lowest setting to ensure safety once your baby reaches a milestone and starts to sit and crawl.

Avoid Too Many Accessories if You Have a Newborn

If your baby is a newborn, surprisingly, things that seem harmless, like stuffed toys and pillows, are the main danger that a lot of people tend to overlook. These are too big and can cause suffocation, as they could be heavy. Sleepers are more recommended; blankets can unexpectedly unravel and create long strings, which can cause untoward incidents.

Use A Tight Mattress

The tighter the better. Gaps between the bed and the side must be closed either by a bigger mattress or a thicker bed sheet. Babies can easily slip through gaps unpredictably, and you should avoid cribs with too large windows. Cribs with a railing can help prevent toppling with a secure perimeter around your child.

Anchor Furniture and Monitors

Monitors should be kept at least three feet away from the crib, and if your baby is watching, make sure there’s a parent or caregiver present. Electronic items have long dangling wires that can be a safety risk. There is also the possibility of furniture falling, such as dressers or bookshelves, and most have sharp edges, so it’s best to anchor them to the wall.

Install Overhead Lighting

It is recommended to buy a stable overhead lighting than a table lamp or similar lighting, as they can easily be tipped over and cause an accident. Make sure that the quality is good and the lighting is suitable for babies, such as soft and warm-toned bulbs, and lights that are dimmable.
